Whether you just closed on a house in Greece, moved into a rental in Henrietta, or you’re fed up with a hauler that keeps skipping your street in Irondequoit, sorting out trash service is one of those move-in chores that sneaks up on you. This guide covers the local details Rochester-area homeowners ask about most, including pickup times, totes, pricing, curbside rules, and how to start or switch service with Oaks Disposal Service.

New to how residential pickup works in general? Our Beginner’s Guide to Setting Up Trash Service walks through the basics.

Where Oaks Disposal Service Picks Up

We serve homeowners throughout the greater Rochester area, including Greece, Henrietta, Gates, Chili, Brockport, Hamlin, and the city of Rochester. Every customer gets weekly trash and recycling pickup, and your pickup day is assigned based on your route when you sign up. Not sure if your street is covered? Check our service area or give us a call.

Why Rochester Homeowners Go With a Private Hauler

A lot of people assume town pickup is their only choice. It isn’t. Municipal service is run by a town or city and covers a large number of homes on routes and budgets set by local government, so getting a problem fixed often means working through a public office.

Oaks Disposal Service is locally owned and independent. We plan our own routes and stick to them, so your collection day doesn’t drift from week to week. When something comes up, you deal directly with us instead of waiting on a town department. For homeowners in the suburbs, where municipal options can be limited or spotty, that consistency makes a real difference.

Signs It’s Time for a New Trash Provider

Every service has an off week now and then, but some problems are a pattern. It might be time to switch if

  • Your street gets missed more than once in a while
  • Your pickup day or timing keeps changing without notice
  • You can’t reach anyone when there’s a problem
  • Missed pickups take days to get resolved, if they get resolved at all

If that sounds familiar, you’re not being picky. Trash day should be something you never have to think about.

Your Weekly Pickup Routine

Trash and recycling go out together and get picked up on the same day. Trucks run anytime between 6 AM and 6 PM, so the safest move is rolling your totes to the curb the night before or first thing in the morning.

Holiday weeks shift things slightly. When a holiday lands during your service week, pickup moves back one day for the rest of that week.

Totes Included With Your Service

Two totes come standard with every account.

  • A 96-gallon tote for trash
  • A 64-gallon tote for recycling

Bigger household or more recycling than one tote can handle? Additional totes are available for a one-time $100 fee. If a tote gets cracked or worn out, contact customer service for a replacement. Depending on the damage or how it happened, a replacement fee may apply.

What Goes to the Curb and What Doesn’t

Everyday household trash and recycling are accepted every week. If you have overflow, you can set out up to 8 extra items as long as they’re bagged and at the curb.

Furniture, appliances, and other bulky items can be picked up too, but call ahead so we can plan for them. Unscheduled piles of large items may be left behind.

A few things can’t go curbside at all.

  • Tires
  • Paint
  • Batteries
  • Electronics

For electronics, look up an approved drop-off location near you through earth911.com. Yard waste is handled by your town, so follow your municipality’s guidelines for leaves, brush, and clippings.

Rates and Billing in the Rochester Area

Rates can vary by neighborhood, but most residential customers fall into one of two plans.

  • $140 every 3 months with quarterly billing
  • $475 per year with annual billing paid upfront

The annual plan works out to a lower rate than paying quarterly. Fuel surcharges and taxes are already built into the price, so the number you’re quoted is the number you pay. You can set up auto-pay or pay by mail.

Commitment and Cancellation

New accounts have a 3-month minimum. If you ever need to cancel, give us 30 days’ notice so we can close out your account properly.

Bigger Projects and Dumpster Rentals

Cleaning out a basement, renovating a kitchen, or clearing out a property after a move? Our sister company, Oaks Dumpster Rental, has dumpsters for jobs too big for curbside pickup, and customers who use both services may qualify for a discount.

Starting Service or Making the Switch

Reach out whichever way is easiest for you.

We’ll confirm we cover your address, go over your plan options, and put you on a pickup day.

Coming from another hauler? Lock in your Oaks start date before you cancel your current service so you don’t end up with a week of overflowing totes. It’s also worth asking your old provider whether they need notice or want their totes back.

Talk to a Local Team

One of the first things new customers notice is what happens when they call. Questions about your account, a change to your service, or a special pickup all go to a local team that can actually take care of it, not a phone tree or a voicemail box that never calls back.

Whether you’re settling into a new home or done chasing down missed pickups, Oaks Disposal Service makes trash day the easiest part of your week. Call 585-449-6257 or sign up online to get started.
